Project Summary

The Maritime Metrics System was a proof of concept web design for SeerBI, made using Figma. The idea behind the system was to track various statistics and metrics of freight ships in Europe aiming to streamline workflow in the maritime industry.

The design of the home page is indicative of a Microsoft Power BI dashboard, a familiar tool for my former colleagues at SeerBI, with separate windows that offer insight into different aspects of tracked vessels.

The design used collapsable sidebar navigation to provide fast and efficient access to the various pages of the application. This was chosen over header dropdown menus as the design of the homepage was especially busy with its multi-window layout, and using a collapsable sidebar allowed the user’s cognitive load to be reduced, drawing their attention to navigation options by using a dark overlay on the page in the background.

The design was kept consistent using Figma’s “Styles” feature, allowing me to maintain a coherent colour palette using SeerBI’s brand colours.

In addition, Figma’s auto-layout feature was heavily utilized to achieve consistent spacing between elements, particularly useful for the windowed dashboard design of the home page and when creating the many tables used for maritime data.
