Project Summary
I created this prototype using Unreal Engine 4 as part of the Advanced Game Mechanics module during my time at Teesside University, I was challenged to combine two mechanics to create a unique gameplay experience.
I combined deck-building mechanics with 2D platforming, where the player chooses up to two cards and has to play through a platforming level based on their selection.
There are six levels in total, each with a unique theme, power-up for the player to collect, and dangerous hazards to avoid.
The goal of the game is to explore each level to collect all twelve of the mysterious white crystal shards. Some shards may require a power-up found in different levels in order to acquire, prompting the player to replay completed levels to explore alternate routes.
Be careful as you only have five lives before it’s game over and you have to start the crystal shard collection process from the beginning. This adds a roguelike element to the game and encourages players to create a mental map of the levels in their heads to be able to clear levels efficiently.
